Demetra Gregory Peters is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she earned a Master’s degree in Art Education and a Bachelor’s in Fine Art.
Prior to her work at Grayson, Mrs. Peters taught art in the public schools in Maryland’s Howard County, where she also wrote art curriculum for the district. She has also taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art’s Young People’s Studio and at the Baltimore Museum of Art, and served as Art Director of the Saint Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center near San Francisco. Locally, Mrs. Peters has been an instructor for children’s classes on drawing, painting, and jewelry design at Wayne Art Center and Wallingford’s Community Art Center, in addition to teaching at the Philadelphia University School of Art and Architecture.
Mrs. Peters has also put her talent and passion for art to work in a wide variety of roles outside the classroom, including work as a mural artist, floral designer, and picture framer. Additionally, for 20 years she has run her own business, Special Occasions, which leverages her creativity and design and decorating skills for parties both large and small, including preparing baptismal and wedding accessories for Greek Orthodox Sacraments.
As a child and through her teen years, Mrs. Peters attended Philadelphia College of Art’s Saturday School Program, and hopes her classes will inspire the same kind of love of art in her students at Grayson. She shares her love of theater and has directed musical productions in Maryland and at St Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church, where she works as Youth Advisor.
