Gifted Education Speaker Event: PBL at Home and School
October 14, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

A key part of our mission is to be a resource to the gifted community in the greater Philadelphia region. All parents, educators and other professionals are welcome to this Project-based learning (PBL) speaker event!
Our own Ally O’Rourke-Barrett, Director of Interdisciplinary Projects at Grayson will lead a presentation and discussion on Life is a Project: PBL at Home and in the Classroom. Project-based learning, or PBL, is an interdisciplinary approach where students identify and explore complex, real world questions or problems through a rigorous process of discovery, failure, self-leadership, and challenge over an extended period of time. This hands-on, dynamic approach provides children with authentic and memorable experiences that build skills necessary for success in their lives.
Along with Paul “Mac” McDermott, she was instrumental in creating a MakerSpace at Grayson where our students can bring their passions from ideas, to prototypes, and first production in our fabrication, textile and multimedia production labs. Ms. O’Rourke-Barrett has presented her work on the topic of Project-Based Learning most recently at the Beyond IQ Conference in Boston and at the biennial symposium of the World Council on Gifted & Talented Children in Sydney, Australia.
