Gifted Education Speaker Event

A key part of our mission is to be a resource to the gifted community in the greater Philadelphia region.  Our Gifted Education Speaker Events feature prominent researchers, educators, authors, and leaders in the field.

Guest Speakers Include:

Wendy BehrensWendy Behrens, M.A. Ed., is the Gifted and Talented Education Specialist for the Minnesota Department of Education. She presents frequently on the nature and needs of gifted learners, instructional strategies, comprehensive service design, and policies that support highly able learners. Behrens is President of the Council of State Directors of Programs for the Gifted, and received the President’s Award from NAGC in 2013. She is an elected US delegate to the World Councl on Gifted, and a member of NAGC Policy Task Force, Development and Fund Raising Committee, and advisory councils for the Center for Talent Development, and the University of St. Thomas. Behrens co-authored the 2013 Prufrock Press and NAGC co-publication Exploring Critical Issues in Gifted Education: A Case Studies Approach.

 

5c774862478ba62f3bca5b428b055a6bDr. Michael Postma is a consultant, speaker, and author dedicated to the holistic development of twice-exceptional children and other non-typical learners through his company Agility Educational Solutions. Dr. Postma received his Bachelor’s Degree in Classical History at McMaster University before enrolling at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI to obtain his teacher licensure. He enrolled at the University of St. Thomas in the Gifted, Talented & Creative Education Master’s Program. After completing his M.A., Dr. Postma continued his education at St. Thomas and received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Critical Pedagogy). Over the last two decades, Dr. Postma has worked as both a teacher and administrator in the public school system and is the architect of the Minnetonka Navigator Program, a magnet school for highly and profoundly gifted students.

We invite educators, home schoolers, parents, behavioral health professionals and anyone interested in gifted education to participate in these informative and interactive discussions.

This is a “pay as you can event.”  We appreciate any donations the day of the event to offset our costs.  Act 48 credits may be available for a charge.
