Summer at Grayson offers gifted students the opportunity to engage in high-level coursework with their intellectual peers outside of school. The Summer is designed to think critically, ask and answer difficult questions, solve problems, and stretch their minds. Our courses are for FUN, not curricular advancement.

June 13-17: Build Your Own Computer
In this half-day weeklong class, students will be taught to and be assisted with building their own computers. Parts will be purchased by families separately; parents and students can choose from a grouping of parts in Tier 1, 2, or 3, as their price point allows. To start, students will be taught about various hardware and software aspects, such as motherboards and CPU’s and about what they do for the computer. Then we will move on to construction of the computers. Because of the delicate and sometimes expensive aspects of the parts, teaching will either be done one-on-one or two-on-one. While this is happening, the other students will be able to observe, learn, and of course help out. At the end of the week, each student should have a fully-functional, custom-built PC. We hope you choose to join us in this fun and informative class about computers and PC building!
Ages 9 and up. Co-taught by high school students with experience in building their own computers; adult supervision provided for the entirety of the class
1p-4p (may be taken in conjunction with Drone Camp for a 10% discount on each class)
Materials Lists—students and families will be responsible for selecting which tier they would like to choose, and purchasing the materials on that list.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Summer at Grayson students only for Grayson students?
No, we welcome all gifted students to apply and take our courses. Part of our mission is to support the gifted community, both in our own school and in our community. We have envisioned Summer at Grayson as a place where both our students and gifted students from other schools or from a homeschool setting can come together to engage with intellectual peers who share their interests.
Is there an application process?
Yes. To ensure that all students get the most they can out of their experiences at Summer at Grayson, there is a brief application process. Application materials must include the application form and at least two pieces of supplementary material demonstrating giftedness. This may be satisfied by two of the following: school transcript, IQ test report, copies of achievement and/or above-level testing, academic recommendation, GIEP, GWR/RR, or student portfolio. We may contact you for more information if needed. If you do not have any of the above paperwork/tests, please contact our office to discuss alternative options for admission.
