Joshua Vargha

Joshua Vargha teaches History at Grayson. He is a Veteran of the United States Air Force and former Department Chair who created the Social Studies AP program at his last school. Mr. Vargha holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and History from Temple University and is pursuing a Master’s degree in American History from Pace University.

Mr. Vargha seeks to help students draw connections between what they are learning and what is going on in the world today while emphasizing that knowledge and access to information are essential to responsible citizenship and participation in a democracy. He shares, “A good education in social studies is more than just reading about past events; it should also include engaging with current ones, which is why I always encourage my students to get involved with causes that they care about personally.”

Mr. Vargha spends as much time outdoors as possible and particularly enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time near or on the water, whether a river, lake, or ocean. It’s not surprising that he is also a giant history buff with a particular love of ancient Rome, which he credits to studying Latin in high school.

Born and raised in Durham, NC, Mr. Vargha is married, the father of two (soon to be three) who share their home with two cats and a dog.
