After a year as a Reading and Executive Function specialist at Grayson, Ms. Lawson is excited to move full-time into a classroom teaching role. She has spent her career working with students whose educational needs are not met in typical school environments, and she looks forward to leveraging her experiences to provide the kind of accelerated and advanced programming that gifted students truly need and deserve.
Ms. Lawson is particularly interested in early childhood education, and has she has taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes at The Goddard School, Brooke Elementary School, and Oaks Elementary School. Subsequently, she moved to focus on individual learners whose abilities and challenges were not being addressed. Leaving the confines of a mixed-ability, general education classroom, she began coaching and tutoring individual students. She worked closely with a neuropsychologist’s reading, learning, and attention clinic as a reading coach and math coach to improve student fluency, encoding, and decoding; she is particularly interested in guiding student reading comprehension, written expression, and executive function.
Ms. Lawson has also worked as an educational consultant, working primarily with children needing Special Education services. While she acted as advocate, tutor, and consultant with client families, she found the coaching aspect of her work especially rewarding, leading her to she mentor other education professionals regarding the specifics of Special Education requirements and services. To that end, she worked as a Peer Monitor at the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education, and she once served as the Chairperson of the Chester County Right to Education Task Force, educating parents about the intricacies of the process of securing educational services and accommodations for their children.
Ms. Lawson holds a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education from Lock Haven University. A mother of two teenaged boys, she relaxes by cooking, gardening, and kayaking.
